Japan has been making cartoon art for
hundreds of years. Anime refers to, but is not always, the Japanese version of animation. It also can be various forms of comics and other
artworks. Anime has been influenced by various Eastern and Western cultures, but the main aspects are distinctly Japanese. One major
difference between Japanese Animation and "Western" cartoons you might be used to is that Amine is created for all ages and not
just for children. For an excellent overview and a better understanding of Anime, check out
Eri Izawa's definition, or check out this
web page by Michael Kim. Both pages give excellent descriptions and more information
on what Japanese Anime is all about. Here are a couple of pretty cool articles on the
